Hi everyone,

The council have been contacted to ask why emails being sent to the Trees & Hedges Appeal department at the Secretary of State’s office are being rejected.

In essence the council made a mistake and shouldn’t have directed the local community to contact the government department.

The reason is that the landowner has requested a fast track appeal which means no new objections or representations can be considered during the appeal process.

In essence we just have to put our faith in the original objections that were originally submitted and hope that the government see through Pratt’s false assertions regarding the health of the tree.

Also, make sure you point out that his ‘olive branch’ of planting another tree on the other side of the cutting is a total nonsense: the replacement tree position would not provide comparable impact on the character of the conservation area as it would be planted 15-19 metres lower than the existing tree, in the railway cutting, and would not be visible to most neighbouring properties or visitors to the area.

Finally, as you may remember we commissioned an independent assessment of the tree from Bartlett Tree Experts, which found that the tree was perfectly healthy, and it has been suggested that we get an updated assessment now the tree is in full bloom. Click the icon to view Bartlett's Aug. 24 assessment.
